I don't touch politics much. In fact, I don't recall every putting up a purely political post, but I have something to say which I don't hear anyone saying it.
You see headlines like: "Americans Angry With Obama As Gas Nears $4 A Gallon" and then you drill down into the story and you immediately read(or hear) something like: "So they disapprove of his handling of Gas prices? What do they want him to do?... To your point there isn't a whole lot that any president can do about gas prices in the here and now... So say that you are going to 'drill, drill, drill' its going to take ten or twenty years...".
Its time for the President, as head of the Democratic party and as a ex-US senator, to take responsibility for his and his party's actions over the last decade plus. They have blocked access to petroleum resources in Alaska, off the coast of California, off the Atlantic coast and in the gulf of Mexico and significant resources would have already come online by now, lowering the price of gas at the pumps, if not for the Democrats. They are responsible for the long-term results of their actions. They should accept responsibility and explain the tradeoffs made and the reasons for blocking that access rather than pretending they were not involved. The democrats and the President are responsible and they should be held accountable and its time for the media to stop giving them a free pass.
Now, as someone who accepts that Peak Oil is real and significant, I think its a good thing that we are facing some high-prices now and have saved oil resources for the future when they will be absolutely irreplacable and desparately needed, but lets be honest about the situation. I really can't stand the dishonesty and inability of USA politicians to face unpleasant facts and I really don't like the fact that the media thinks we are too stupid to remember who has been consistently blocking access to significant US-based oil resources for years and years.
